At its core, Chime exists to build financial progress for everyday Americans — a mission that's evolved considerably faster than the design language and tech stack meant to support it. As web design lead, I saw an opportunity (and honestly, a responsibility) to close that gap: building a component library and set of usage guidelines that could hold the brand's design integrity accountable as the product itself kept changing shape.
But a library is only as good as the systems around it. So a meaningful part of this work was collaborative by necessity — partnering closely with engineering and CRO to shape the web roadmap, and building out an actual strategy for deprecating and optimizing components over time. Not just "ship it and move on," but a real cadence for revisiting what we'd built and asking whether it still served the brand — and the people using it.
