Quarantine Times
On March 17, 2020, Quarantine Times started publishing the works of over 250 artists online after the city-mandated shut down brought life as we knew it to a halt. Now, almost exactly one-year later, Public Media Institute (PMI) is thrilled to announce the publication of The Quarantine Times book on March 20, 2021. The 500+ page tome features over 151 contributions from Chicago-based artists, social workers, and thinkers responding to the crises of 2020.

Process

The Quarantine Times started as a web documentation of daily artist commissioned work during the pandemic. The book adaption took elements from the web, the length of the anthology, and the change of tone in it's progression as a cue for design guides.

The design decisions were informed by the variety in mediums and media of work, the element of time, and by a time that proved to be very isolating for many. Through typography, layout, and intentional white space we channeled this.
